Sinclair feels ‘at home’ after landing awards

-

Scott Sinclair admitted he had “found a home” at Celtic after being voted the club’s player of the year.

The former Swansea, Manchester City and Aston Villa winger won both the supporters’ and his fellow players’ prizes at the club’s awards.

The 28-year-old has scored 25 goals since Brendan Rodgers made him one of his first signings as Celtic manager, the latest the penalty opener in their recordbreaking 5-1 victory over Rangers at Ibrox.

After receiving the fans’ award, Sinclair said on stage in a clip posted on Celtic’s Twitter account: “It means so much. The thing is I have been to so many clubs, so many, and here I feel like I’ve found a home.

“And also to have the connection back with the fans, playing week in, week out, and to be scoring goals, I have amazing team-mates, I can’t thank them enough.

“And also a big thank-you to Brendan Rodgers.

“The past two to three years has been tough. Obviously being at City and not playing for two years, and being at Villa and getting relegated.

“I was sort of at a crossroads in my career where I didn’t really know where to turn. And now I don’t look back.

“For him to put me back on that platform, doing what I do best, and getting me back to scoring goals and back to enjoying football again.”

Kieran Tierney won the young player award, while Moussa Dembele got the best goal for his third strike at St Johnstone in February, which came after a 24-pass move.

Rangers striker Kenny Miller, meanwhile, has urged his team-mates to come out fighting in their final four matches of the season following their derby humiliation.

The Light Blues face a fourth consecutive Glasgow derby on Sunday when they play Partick Thistle at Firhill following two emphatic defeats by Celtic.

Second place in the Ladbrokes Premiership looks beyond Rangers given Aberdeen have a nine-point lead and a far superior goal difference, but Miller knows they have to begin the process of recovering from Saturday’s record 5-1 home defeat by Celtic.

“It will be right down to work on Tuesday looking towards next weekend’s game because after two results like that there needs to be a reaction, and a positive reaction,” he told Rangers TV.

“There’s no point walking about with your head down feeling sorry for yourself.

“It’s about winning games of football again, getting back to putting in positive performances and positive results and ultimately winning matches of football, that is what this club has been built on.

“Yep, it’s not going to be a successful season in terms of winning trophies, but it’s something we need to address and make sure next year we are definitely more equipped to put up a better fight.”
