Man to pay victim compensation after forcing her to lick his shoe

-

A young man who forced his former partner to lick his shoe during a violent attack in the flat they shared has been ordered to pay £1,400 in financial penalties.

Sheharyar Awan left his victim cowering in terror in a common stairwell after the assault, which took place on July 16 last year and which also saw him spit on her.

The 21-year-old had denied the unpleasant attack but was found guilty following a trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

Awan was convicted of acting in a threatening and abusive manner at an address on South Street, Perth, on July 16 last year, by shouting, swearing and forcing the woman to lick his shoe, emptying her handbag and preventing her from calling the police.

He was further found guilty of assaulting the woman by seizing her by the body, forcing her to the floor, seizing her by the neck and spitting on her.

The court heard the pair had continued to share a flat though their relationship had ended.

During evidence the woman said he had turned on her after she returned from a night out with friends.

He knocked her to the floor and then kicked her a couple of times in the back of the upper thigh before removing his shoe and telling her to kiss it.

She thought his conduct had been designed to “humiliate her”.

Sheriff Gillian Wade told Awan: “It is astonishing that a man of your background could behave in such a manner.

“You obviously come from a good and supportive family and they will no doubt be ashamed of your actions.”

She ordered him to pay his victim £700 in compensation and fined him a further £700.
