Boost for RDA arena project

-

A charity duck race has made more than £2,100 for Blairgowrie’s Riding for the Disabled Association.

The money raised will help fund an upgrade of the group’s facilities, as well as paying towards essential running costs.

Volunteers hope to build an arena, install toilets and open a classroom at the charity’s base in Blairgowrie’s Golf Course Road.

They recently held an event to progress work on the new facilities.

Equine manager Michelle Mann said: “We are fencing off a schooling arena so there is somewhere contained for the children and riders who come here.

“We’re also hoping to create a riding track on the premises, with some gentle obstacles along the way.”

“We made good progress with the work and would like to thank all the volunteers who came along for the help.”

Another work day will be held in the near future, she said.

“We would also like to thank everyone involved in our duck race,” added Michelle.

“Especially those who sold or bought ducks from us, everyone who generously donated prizes and everyone who helped on the day and behind the scenes.”

The group is turning around its fortunes after a downturn in volunteers and the loss of a highly valued coach last year sparked fears it may have to fold.

It was saved by fresh interest from locals.
