Bulbs planted for spring display

-

Volunteers have set to work on a community woodland project that is expected to draw visitors to a Perthshire town.

Around 3,000 bulbs have been planted at the Butterybank site on the edge of Coupar Angus.

It was the latest phase of the Forward Coupar Angus project.

The bulbs were bought and planted as part of the Volunteering Matters Action Earth (VMAE) campaign, which is backed by Scottish Natural Heritage.

Volunteers planted daffodils, bluebells and snowdrops at the top and side entrances of the woodland area.

Organisers have also planted fruit trees on the sloping land.

The VMAE group is supporting around 170 projects across Scotland, offering grants of up to £500 to groups supporting and encouraging volunteer activity through practical, environmental projects.

A spokesman for the woodland scheme said: “Everybody can get involved in their local outdoor spaces.

“They are a shared resource and a shared responsibility.

“The VMAE grants are designed to help groups of volunteers take practical action to improve and create places for wildlife and this afternoon planting session, which also proved to be real fun in the sun, achieved this.”

The woodland project was launched in 2015.
