£20,000 cultural tourism fund opens

-

A new fund has been launched to help develop innovative tourism experiences.

Scottish Enterprise has a pot of £20,000 available to support new tourism ventures in Dundee.

SE’s Louise Tobin told a Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce business breakfast at Abertay University it is hoped the Cultural Tourism Fund will have a similar impact to the literary scheme in Edinburgh. Applications for the fund are open until June 14.

“We want to enhance the cultural tourism proposition,” Ms Tobin said.

“We want to attract more visitors to the city by enhancing the visitor offer through the development of new innovative products and experiences.”

Ryan McLeod of Slurpp is one such innovator, having designed a tour guide app which attaches a fictional storyline to real places in Dundee as the user walks through each of the locations.

The event also heard from Cian Roche and Erin Stevenson of Puny Astronaut, an award-winning Abertay Universitybased games development studio.

Their game, Glaze, is designed as a gentle and relaxing experience suitable for children and casual gamers and is being readied for a commercial release.

The event was part of Abertay University’s ongoing celebration to mark 20 years since it offered the world’s first degree course in computer games.
