There has been a busy opening month at

Some noted catches included: Barry Robertson and Neil Anderson with more than 50 fish on catch and return; C Wardle and Y Saddi, five for 10lb 12oz; Kingfisher 20 AC, five boats, 38 fish for 81lb 8oz; Arboath AC, seven boats, 46 fish for 106lb with a further 22 on catch and return; Leslie & Llanimar AC, four boats, 18 fish, 39lb 8oz with 18 returned; Leslie & Glenrothes, eight boats, 31 fish for 62lb 5oz and 19 returned; Wiremills AC, eight boats, 47 fish, 95lb 3oz, 20 returned; Persie AC, four boats, 22 for 41lb 8oz.

The SANAC heat saw 13 boats take 77 fish for more than 144lb and 30 fish on catch and return.

Jock Kettles (SANAC) took first place with three fish and six on catch and return for 15lb. Second place went to Kevin Neri (Raemoir Trout Fishers) with three fish, five returned for 14lb 6oz, with Neil Anderson (Monikie AC) third with three, five returned for 14lb 3oz.

The cold winds made fishing at MONIKIE tricky last week, but 46 day anglers managed to catch 174 fish and nine evening anglers took 56.

A variety of methods were taking fish, with these being very weather and wind dependant.

Midge tip lines or floaters with, cormorants, traffic light buzzers, pheasant tail, crunchers, snatchers and black hoppers or emergers, were taking fish, while in the colder, bright days the fish went down but could be contacted with the same mix of buzzers off a fast glass line and orange blobs.

Some anglers have also been taking fish with lures fished off DI3 and DI7 lines.

Despite high winds there has been some excellent catches again this week at FRANDY.

Ian Webster and Peter Locke (Strathallan) took nine fish for 21lb 8oz and released six; and Robert Paterson (Stirling) released seven.

The top taking flies

and lures included the Kate McLaren, hot head damsel, bloodworm, sedgehogs, hoppers and cormorants.

A big rise in water temperature in the last week at LAKE OF

MENTEITH saw very good buzzer hatches from the shallow and deeper drifts.

In the first heat of the Scottish Club Championship, 12 teams competed. The 36 anglers caught a total of 127 with 68 being released.

Each returned trout counted as 2lb towards total bag weight.

Tartan Tyers trio of Alan Martin, Scott Aitken and Andy McAdam took the honours with 20 trout weighing 42lb 12oz. Change FF’s Kevin McCabe, Jock Kettles and Andy Dunn saw 20 trout weighed in at 40lb 10oz for runners-up, while third went to Ayr Travellers B with a catch of 14 for 29lb 12.8oz.

In the Disabled National, sponsored by the lake, 21 anglers caught 169 trout with an average of 2lb 5.5oz.

This year’s champion is Jim Crawford with 17 fish for 35.15lb.
