Jefferies tips Locke to complete job

-

Jim Jefferies is backing his former Hearts skipper Gary Locke to keep Cowdenbeath in the SPFL.

Jefferies believes Locke’s will to win will be a key weapon for the Fifers when they face East Kilbride in tomorrow’s play-off final first leg at the K-Park.

The ex-Jambos boss, sporting director for Edinburgh City, who defied the odds to retain their League Two status, said: “There is no doubt Gary has made a huge difference to Cowdenbeath’s performances since he has come in.

“But they have not got the results they needed and that is why they are in the play-off position.

“It’s strange to see Cowdenbeath down there because it was not so long ago they were playing in the Championship.

“They have been in free-fall the last couple of years and Gary will be doing all he can to help them survive against an East Kilbride side who will by no means be easy to beat as they showed by beating Cowden in the Scottish Cup.

“It’s a big test but I just feel Cowdenbeath will have just too much for them.

“East Kilbride are still something of an unknown quantity but it was the same last season when Edinburgh City defeated East Stirlling in the playoff final.

“I was obviously with Lockie at Hearts and you won’t find anyone who is more enthusiastic or more committed to the game.

“He has tremendous leadership qualities and wants to win for his team. That can only stand Cowdenbeath in good stead.

“If he saves them, he will have done a fantastic job.”
