Archibald focuses on Jags progress amid speculation

-

Alan Archibald insists planning Partick Thistle’s summer recruitment drive remains his top priority despite being linked with managerless Swindon.

Reports yesterday suggested Archibald, who takes his side to face St Johnstone in Perth tomorrow, is on the Robins shortlist of candidates to replace the departed Luke Williams.

But the Jags boss has heard nothing from the club that suffered relegation to Sky Bet League Two.

Instead, the 39-yearold is concentrating on bringing in three new players as he looks to ensure the Firhill outfit progress again next term.

Archibald was nominated for PFA Scotland’s manager of the year award after guiding Thistle to the top six and their highest league finish in 36 years.

He told Press Association Sport: “I’ve not heard a thing so it’s just been work as normal. It would have to be a very tempting offer to make me consider leaving Thistle.

“The squad is in a strong place – it’s the strongest it’s been in the last four years. We have good competition and good versatility.

“We’re looking to add to it and my plans are just about getting next year sorted as soon as we can, as it will be an even tougher challenge getting into the top six next season.

“Getting into the top six has allowed us to make offers to players and it’s just about whether the guys want to accept offers early or wait and see if there’s something better out there.
