A globe-hopping bunny ornament has returned to Perth after a year on the run.

The statuette was apparently stolen from the garden of Fiona McWilliams, who believed it was gone forever.

However, it was returned to its Perth home last week – along with a mysterious note written in four languages.

The letter, which has sections in English, French, Italian and German, states that the rabbit, which the writers have named Jeffrey, was taken abroad to Iceland, and hints at a trip to sunnier climes.

Fiona said she was glad to have her rabbit back, but added that she would love to know more about his “gap year”.

She said: “On Friday night at around 11.30pm my neighbour saw three people going past his window and saw one of them jump into my garden. He went out and asked them what they were doing and the guy said in broken English that he was posting a letter.

“My neighbour told him it was a funny time of night to be delivering a letter. While they were talking, my neighbour thought he saw him pick up something, but that was him putting the rabbit back.

“It was taken around a year ago. I was annoyed as I’ve had so many things disappear (from my garden). I didn’t expect to get anything back — and I still don’t expect to get the other things back, I think this is a one-off.

“I’m chuffed to bits to have him back. It was totally unexpected and I’m glad he’s now got a name. He’s going to stay as Jeffrey now.

“I can only thank the people for returning it. I don’t wish them to ever do it again, but I’d love to know who did it and where he’s been – we are guessing they are exchange students because the college is so close.

“I don’t want to get anyone into trouble, I’m just curious.

“It’s a pity they never took photos or sent postcards as he’s done more travelling than me.”
