Chance to quiz politicians at hustings events
Scottish farmers will get the chance to question politicians on the industry’s key concerns at a series of hustings events ahead of the general election on June 8.
NFU Scotland (NFUS) has organised a central area husting at Perth on Thursday.
On the panel at Huntingtower Hotel at 7.30pm will be Pete Wishart (SNP), Ian Duncan (Scottish Conservatives), David Romelle (Scottish Labour) and Peter Barrett (Scottish Liberal Democrats).
This will be followed by a national hustings at Lanark auction mart next Tuesday at 7.30pm.
Confirmed to appear so far are John Scott (Scottish Conservatives) and Calum Kerr (SNP).
A third meeting has been confirmed in the north east on Friday June 2 and will take place in the Kintore Arms, Inverurie at 1.30pm.
On the panel at this event are Alex Salmond (SNP), Colin Clark (Scottish Conservatives), Kirsten Muat (Scottish Labour) and David Evans (Scottish Liberal Democrats).
The union believes this general election is pivotal for Scottish farmers as the Government that is elected on June 8 will lead the negotiations on the UK’s exit of the EU.
New trading arrangements and immigration rules will be negotiated, along with a new system of agricultural support to replace the Common Agricultural Policy.
A copy of the NFUS manifesto is available for download from their website.
