Put the youngsters through their paces
In just over a month the schools will finish for the term and children everywhere will be rejoicing at the thought of six long weeks of holiday time.
For many parents, however, the holidays can be a mixed blessing.
Gone is the mad routine of homework, after-school clubs and the dreaded school run but, especially for working parents, six weeks can be a long time to keep those small people entertained.
That’s where summer camps, summer schools and activities step in.
Many, such as council-run holiday clubs, are designed around the working day so parents can relax in the knowledge the children will have fun in a safe environment while they are at work.
There are camps and clubs to suit all tastes and budgets.
For those budding sports stars, or youngsters who need dragged away from their tablets and gadgets, there is a fantastic range of sporting camps and activities available.
Check out your local sports centre, university centre or nearby clubs to find out what they offer over the summer.
From football camp to tennis skills or rugby sessions, there is bound to be something that will suit your children.
For some children a day or even a week spent exploring the arts is more tempting – choose from drama and theatre workshops or art classes run by teachers. For those who love IT, gaming workshops can be a great way to while away a few hours, with the chance to learn some programming skills and even create a game of their own.
Getting out into the great outdoors to explore is a fantastic way to spend those sunnier days.
Nature camps or summer camps in a garden or forest environment offer the opportunity to be active out in the fresh air while learning skills such as shelter building or getting to know the local flora and fauna will help build the foundations for a lifelong love of nature.
From baking to basketball and fashion to forest skills, there will be something out there to keep your little ones entertained throughout the holidays.
