Rain hits Strathie challenge

-

Of the 10 clubs in the Strathmore and Perthshire NEC, none was probably disappointed on Saturday than Strathmore.

The Forfar side saw what was developing into a great chance to secure their third win of the league campaign and improve their league challenge disappear.

Instead the rain came and with it the frustration of watching a total of 185 with five wickets remaining and more than 10 overs left count for nothing.

Strathmore against Perth Doo’cot was therefore declared a no result with no points awarded.

So, too, was the match at Meigle where the match lasted 25 overs before the rain came, denying the home side the chance to improve on 80-1 and afforded Mannofield no hope of exploiting a critical point in the game.

It was a nail-biting finish at Forthill as bottom side Forfarshire seconds took league leaders Stoneywood Dyce to the wire.

Batting first, the home side cracked a more than useful 198 with Graeme Garden claiming 65 and Jack Hogarth 47 with Liam Lindsay the only S/D bowler do any damage and even that was a bit expensive at 2-55.

David Kidd and Andy Rayner dug in for the visitors with 67 and 61 respectively but it was not until three balls from the end that S/D got the winning run, having been given a tough time by Samir Hill who took 3-32.

Dundee HSFP travelled to Kinloch and, batting first, set a target of 193 for the home side to chase.

Michael Lawson hit 60, Zahid Rascheed had 30 but it was his brother’s spectacular 47 off 18 balls which was the highlight of the innings.

Sohil Ahmed took five wickets for Kinloch but with Blake Newport, Dundee’s overseas player, and Samie Ejaz sharing the bowling spoils, Kinloch were all back in the pavilion for 113, with Dundee moving up to fifth.

At Countesswells, Gordonians notched up 194-8 – Sreedish Davadas hit 56 – against Arbroath, who went down in under 30 overs for 126.
