Beeves won a dramatic Horizon Parking City Of Perth Gold Cup as he collared a faltering Aerlite Supreme in the shadow of the post to score by a neck.

The 12-1 winner is trained in Staffordshire by Jennie Candlish and winning jockey Sean Quinlan said: “I’d probably settled for second jumping the last but then Adam’s (Wedge) horse stopped close home and I managed to switch to the stands side and get back up.

“He’s been a real star and we won here the time before and at Fakenham. He will probably have a break now as he’s been pretty busy.”

In front of a bumper 8,000 crowd, Warren Greatrex enjoyed his first course success when Attest completed a hat-trick in the Perth Is The Place To Be Handicap Hurdle.

Winning jockey Harry Bannister, maintaining his 50% Perth strike-rate, said: “I’d say this was the most impressive of his wins so far.

“He’s in very good form and has done it very nicely. It’s been a lucky course for me and there a great atmosphere with such a big crowd today.”

Vosne Romanee, trained by Dr Richard Newland, made a winning debut over fences for Sam TwistonDavies when pipping Chitu by a neck in the Coretrax Novices’ Chase.

Twiston-Davies said: “He jumped better than he had been doing over hurdles. This will have done his confidence the world of good and he should be a nice horse for the summer.

“I love coming to Perth as the team here always make you feel so welcome.”

Milnathort trainer Lucinda Russell took the last race of the day as Mighty Thunder, under Blair Campbell, scored by a neck from Arizona Bound.
