Developer urged to build better relationship with Scone residents
Construction firm A&J Stephen has been urged to enter into “real and meaningful” talks with Scone residents, as it prepares to lodge a fresh planning application for new housing.
The firm’s highly contentious bid to build 700 homes was approved in principal by councillors last month.
Members of the development management committee backed the plan, despite widespread opposition. Objectors argued that the development would lead to major pollution and congestion problems.
Local councillor Willie Wilson has now called for improved communications between the Perth-based builders and the local community.
“As a developer, they need to step up to the plate and fully engage with the local community at the detailed planning stage,” he said.
“The ball is firmly in their court and they can, if they wish, have a real and meaningful consultation.”
He added: “The Scone Community Council and the local action group have shown tremendous energy and involvement in the planning process so far and deserve to be fully involved in the next stage.
“This has not been an easy task but things can improve from here on in if there is a genuine desire for all parties to work together.”
Mr Wilson, who led a motion to approve the plan, said if the scheme was rejected it would be taken out of the council’s control and into the hands of the Scottish Government for a final decision.
“I was resolved not to allow that to happen, as from lengthy past experience I feel strongly that it is vital to retain control of this planning application, “he said.
