Bomb hoax pensioner makes legal history
COURT: 73-year-old woman given Scotland’s first serious crime prevention order after threats to kill
A Fife pensioner who threatened to kill the Prime Minister and masterminded bomb hoaxes has been given Scotland’s first serious crime prevention order.
Isabella Jackson, 73, was jailed in May for 45 months for a series of offences which also included bomb hoaxes at Edinburgh Airport, Harrods department store and King’s Cross train station in London, and sending white power to Levenmouth Police Station.
At Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Thursday a Crown application was granted for the civil order which will restrict the number of communications devices she can own on release from prison and require her to notify police of all her online and social media accounts.
Liam Murphy, procurator fiscal for specialist casework, said: “Serious crime prevention orders are a powerful tool to help people convicted of a serious crime from re-offending.
“The actions of Isabella Jackson caused major inconvenience, fear and alarm.
“The prohibitions placed on her, which allow for intensive monitoring on release, will I hope will give her considerable pause for thought in the future.”
Jackson, of Buckhaven, pled guilty to several offences, including the threat to Theresa May made while she was home secretary.
She also maliciously told Fife Council that a fellow resident at her care home had died when that was not the case.
The wheelchair-bound convict has previously served time in prison for sending email threats to the US Embassy in London claiming there was a bomb on a plane and that former US President Barack Obama was to be killed.
When she was jailed last month, Sheriff Grant McCulloch said her actions were those of a “twisted mind, content to cause the utmost disruption from the comfort of your own sofa”.
Jackson will be subject to the order for five years from her release from prison.
It will also require police to be notified of any change of device she owns or account under which one is operated.
