School’s progress earns praise
An east Perthshire school has been praised by an educational body after a follow-up visit.
Education Scotland said Coupar Angus Primary School has acted on three main areas previously raised by HM Inspectorate following a visit in March.
These consisted of developing and agreeing a curriculum rationale and reviewing the curriculum and improving the use of tracking and monitoring by all staff.
In addition, the school has looked at “increasing pace and challenge” across learning to maximise progress for all children with learning experiences that are “motivating, sustain interest and ensure active participation” in the learning process.
A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said pupils at the school are now more “actively engaged” in their learning.
“Children and parents say that children now have more input into what and how they learn,” he said.
“Parents describe children as enjoying their learning more and being enthusiastic about going to school. Children know what they are expected to learn and they engage well with their teachers in dialogue during learning activities.
“Education Scotland states its confidence that Coupar Angus Primary School has the capacity for continued improvement.”
Councillor Caroline Shiers said the council will work with the school to keep parents informed of progress.
