Palace and castle combine forces to attract heritage tourism
Both steeped in their own history, two Perthshire visitor attractions have joined forces in an effort to bring more heritage fans to the area.
To mark the year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017, Scone Palace and The Black Watch Castle and Museum have created the new Perth History and Heritage Pass. This annual pass will enable visitors to access both historic attractions at a 20% discount on standard admission.
Neil Christison of VisitScotland said the initiative should see spin-off benefits for both the palace and the castle.
“Perthshire has some outstanding historical attractions and it’s fantastic to see two of our most popular venues working together in this way,” he said.
“In a time when visitors are more conscious of their spending and are looking for value for money, this joint ticket is a great incentive and will hopefully encourage visitors to spend more time exploring the region.”
Margo Baird, marketing manager at Scone Palace added: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with The Black Watch Castle and Museum and hope that our Perth History and Heritage Pass will encourage visitors to explore both of these wonderful and historic attractions, when they are in the Perth area.”
The Black Watch Museum housed in Balhousie Castle brings the regiment’s past vibrantly to life, through artefacts, personal stories and interactive displays while a vist to Scone is a chance to see where Scottish kings were crowned on the famous Stone of Destiny or explore the 100 acres of grounds.
