Visitor who earned his own special gun salute

-

Jessie’s lasting love for the charms of Arbroath still has some way to go before matching that of other devoted fans of famous seaside destinations.

One loyal visitor to Great Yarmouth was so fond of the place that he went there every year for more than eight decades, missing his holiday on only a couple of occasions when war and illness intervened.

A couple of years ago, Hertfordshire holidaymaker Gareth Gwyn-Jones celebrated his 75th birthday on Guernsey with his 75th trip to the island.

It was regarded as such a milestone for the tourist hotspot that Mr GwynJones was honoured with a noonday gun salute.

And in 2014, Skegness mourned the passing of annual regular Reg Barnes, who died just before he was able to make his 70th consecutive visit to the popular town on England’s east coast.

He was even given an award in 1999 in honour of visiting for 55 years on the trot.
