‘No hard or soft Brexit’, as May seeks ‘right deal’

-

Theresa May snapped back against suggestions she has lost support for an “extreme” Brexit, telling MPs: “There’s no hard Brexit and there’s no soft Brexit.”

The Prime Minister reacted sharply after Labour former minister Ben Bradshaw said the general election “changed everything” and her “extreme, damaging Brexit is dead”.

Mrs May replied: “There’s no hard Brexit and there’s no soft Brexit. What we want is the right deal for the United Kingdom.”

Mrs May’s remarks came after she had outlined her plans to protect the rights of EU nationals once Brexit occurs.

Mr Bradshaw had said of the PM: “She doesn’t seem to understand that the election has changed everything and that her extreme, damaging Brexit is dead.

“So why is she making an offer that, both as it affects British nationals living on the continent and EU nationals here, is far less generous than the offer they made to us just two weeks ago?”

Mrs May criticised Mr Bradshaw’s terminology before also noting: “When people voted in the referendum last year, they voted to ensure we stopped the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice here in the UK.”
