Perthshire village gets ready to welcome the Queen
The people of Blackford are being asked to play their part in welcoming a royal visitor to the village.
People are expected to turn out in force for a glimpse of the Queen when she opens a new £30 million factory extension at the Highland Spring plant on Thursday.
To ensure that the visit goes smoothly parking restrictions will be in force during the visit and locals are being asked for their cooperation.
“Residents in Blackford are respectfully requested to observe the no parking arrangements on Thursday July 6 in any area of the village where cones and signs are deployed,” said a spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council.
“These restrictions are being put in place to allow for a visit by Her Majesty the Queen to Highland Spring.
“Perth and Kinross Council parking attendants and Police Scotland will be enforcing these restrictions as required on the morning of July 6.
“There will however be no parking restrictions on the section of Stirling Street running east to west through the village.
“Perth and Kinross Council will lift these parking restrictions as soon as possible after the visit.”
Welcoming the Queen to Blackford will be the Lord Lieutenant Brigadier Melville Jameson.
As well as meeting staff and touring the new factory building, the Queen will push a button to start the new production line as well as unveiling a plaque. This is the second royal visitor to Perthshire in a week as the Earl of Wessex helped to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Royal School of Dunkeld on Tuesday and toured the refurbishment of Perth Theatre.
