The Midges

-

Betty Cohen has sent this poem which appeared in an issue of Angus Account, produced by Age Concern. She says the authors sang the verses at a concert.

The Midges “The Lord put the Garden of Eden on Earth And it’s north o’ the Tweed we believe. Old Scotland’s the place and the whole human race Started out with McAdam and Eve. In six days, not under, He finished each wonder Except for the Forth and Tay bridges Then always the bloke for a practical joke

He made Scotland the home o’ the midges. Chorus: Oh the midges, the midges, ah’m no’ gonna kid ye, The midges is really the limit. Wi’ teeth like piranhas, they’ll drive ye bananas, If ye let one get under yer simmet. Don’t ever forget as the sun starts tae set And the midges arise aff Loch Eck. Like the vampires that duke oot o’ Bram Stoker’s book, They can be a right pain in the neck. Ye’ll smack them and whack them, in vain ye’ll attack them,

For they know every move that ye make,

If you happen to kill yin, another six million

Are ready tae come to the wake.”
