Council accused of neglecting popular Fair City beauty spot

- Perth

A Perth beauty spot is so overgrown it could be used for army jungle warfare training, a local has claimed.

William Jackson has accused Perth and Kinross Council of neglecting St Magdalene’s Hill, in the Craigie area of Perth, leaving it overgrown and impassable.

He says the grass has not been cut in a year and bins at the popular picnic site are not being emptied regularly.

He said: “So far this year the only grass that has been cut is around the car park and the five-a-side football area.

“The remainder of the tracks have not been cut at all.

“Particularly on a wet day it is terrible – the tracks are overgrown and the nettles hang over.

“The British Army could do jungle warfare training up there. It’s criminal really.

“The pathways are supposed to be wheelchair and pram accessible – however, due to lack of maintenance, allowing the grass verges to become overgrown, it is impossible.

“I have raised the matter with the council and park rangers to no avail.”

A council spokeswoman said: “The paths at St Magdalene’s Hill are part of our right of way core paths.

“All of these paths receive their first cut in July, with the paths of St Magdalene’s part of this schedule of work.

“We take on board any feedback from the community and will prioritise this work to proceed as quickly as possible.

“There are also a number of community groups such as Green Roots to Well Being Perth who undertake various environmental activities at St Magdalene’s Hill, which include cutting back vegetation, creating habitats and litter picking.”
