Winding back the years: It was all smiles at the Rewind festival at Scone Palace this weekend.

Damp weather fails to spoil the fun

Atrocious weather conditions did not dampen the spirits of around 30,000 revellers who deemed this year’s Rewind festival to be an overwhelming success.

On Saturday the rain did not relent but the sun broke through yesterday for the popular throwback event which was largely trouble-free and saw a host of top acts from the ’80s entertain a noisy crowd in a party atmosphere.

Billy Ocean showed he can still work the crowd as the closing act yesterday. The Human League headlined the festival on Saturday night.

Other bands performing on the main stage included Simple Minds, Chesney Hawkes, Level 42, the Trevor Horn Band, Nik Kershaw, the Real Thing, T’Pau, Kim Wilde, Belinda Carlisle and Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel.

Conditions worsened around tea time on Saturday as the ground became sodden but the thousands who attended failed to let this affect their enjoyment of the festival, held near Scone Palace.

Dave Thomson, 45, and wife Debbie, 46, of Aberdeen, said the atmosphere at Rewind is “special” and highlighted the friendliness of those who attend.

“We’ve been coming to Rewind here for four years and it’s absolutely brilliant,” said Mr Thomson, who was dressed as Batman.

“You have to embrace the atmosphere. Listening to all these bands and seeing people really enjoy themselves is like being back at a school disco.”

His view was echoed by Karen Stewart, of Aberdeen, who had travelled to the festival with three friends.

“We’re all ’80s music girls so this festival is superb for us,” she said.

“Everyone you see seems to be having fun and there is a great, happy atmosphere.”

A spokesperson for Rewind said: “The festival has been an overwhelming success. People always dress up for Rewind and get involved in the atmosphere.”
