Alan Wood (Forfar) won the Maggie’s competitio­n at RESCOBIE LOCH, raising funds for the Maggie’s Centre Dundee, writes our angling correspond­ent.

He had four fish for 14lb 4oz.

Some 19 anglers caught 47 fish, including brown trout and rainbow trout. A total of £880 was raised on the day.

Excellent fishing has been had at Rescobie Loch. Water clarity is holding up. The weed cutter has been in action for four days and has made a big improvemen­t.

July fish of the month leader is J Davies with a rainbow of 6lb 4oz.

The recent competitio­n held by the RLDA saw top rod George Irvine with four fish and four returned for 19lb 3oz. LINTRATHEN LOCH has been fishing really well, in particular to surface methods and dry fly in the evenings.

Regular restocking continues, with more than 1,500 fish in the past few weeks. Green/ Black flies continue to work very well across the loch, with Red/Black Cormorant, Grey Spider, Yellow Dancer, Black/ Orange Cats Whisker, Kate McLaren, Red/ Black Diawlbach, Bright Blobs and White Lures also producing good results.

There was some hot and calm weather at LAKE OF MENTEITH.

On Monday the pens were blown up to the exclusion zone rope barrier by the light northerlie­s and some great sport was had ‘along the rope’ on dries, dries and buzzer/nymph combo and lures.

Over the weekend the warm water made things a little trickier than usual, especially when air temperatur­es dropped during heavy showers. Best areas were Hotel Bay, Reedy Point Rookery, Gateside Dog Isle, Malling Shore and Sandy Bay.

The Scottish Club Championsh­ips heat 12 saw mixed conditions.

A total of 50 fish were caught by the 33 anglers, and 11 of these were returned, for a total weight of 125lb 9.10. Hoppers and small nymphs on midge tips and floating lines where the best methods on the night.

The top three teams which qualified for the second semi-final on August 25 are Glencorse RSV B, nine for 18lb 14.9; Gateside Fly Casters, seven for 18lb 14.8; and Coldstream & District, seven for 18lb 8.3.

The top five anglers going through to the champion of champions are: Stevie Whitehead, Glencorse, five for 10lb 0.9; Campbell Morgan, Strathleve­n, four for 9lb 5.4; Jock Craig, Brechin, four for 9lb 5.4; Bradley Chalmers, Gateside, three for 8lb 12.2; and Derek Hessett, Gateside, three for 7lb 0.9.

The best fish of the night fell to Dick Logan, Coldstream a 5lb 12.9oz rainbow.

The recent Boat League saw a quiet night, with only 15 turning up for the 12th night of the boat league.

However, the catches were reasonable, with 67 fish netted. It was a closely contested evening with four men getting eight fish. It came down to who caught their first fish first. William Ramage was the one to get his fish at 6.15pm.
