Scougall’s progress delights boss Wright

-

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is delighted with the progress of summer signing Stefan Scougall.

The former Livingston and Sheffield United man has been getting much-needed first team football in pre-season, the benefit of which is clear to see.

And Perth boss Wright admitted that it was a “pity” they didn’t have a fully match-sharp Scougall for their Europa league matches.

“I have been pleased with Stefan,” he said. “He had a longer break than the others and we have had to manage him in pre-season.

“It’s a pity he wasn’t at the same level of fitness a few weeks ago or we would have used him more in Europe. At 100% he would have given us that bit extra.

“We have had to be careful with Stefan. But recent games he has shown what a good player he is going to be for us. He has been involved in goals against both Hartlepool and Sunderland.”

Wright added: “There is more to come from him but in terms of progressing his fitness, we can see him improving.

“He is a player that will excite our fans. He goes past people and makes penetrative runs. Stefan can see a pass.

“We are looking for goals and assists from him. That’s what wide and creative players are judged on. He is certainly capable of chipping in with goals and he will certainly create chances for us.”

Meanwhile the clubs is holding an open training session at McDiarmid Park, this Monday.

This will be an opportunity for supporters to see this season’s first team squad be put through their paces as they prepare for the league opener away to Kilmarnock the following Saturday.

The event is free.
