Country comes to town for the 155th Perth Show next weekend.

As the city of Perth prepares to welcome the movers and shakers in the worlds of agriculture, equestrianism, food and drink, we take a look at the highlights of the main event.

For the purists, the livestock will be one of the main attractions, with an amazing line-up of would-be champion horses, cattle, sheep, donkeys and goats coming to town.

More than 1,200 head of livestock will compete in 340 classes during the show.

Friday August 4 is a day for horse followers, with all-day judging of ponies and horses the focus of events.

Youngsters and adults will line up with horses of every breed, vying to catch the judges’ eye in 75 individual classes.

A grand parade of all champions and prizewinners will bring the equestrian classes to a close.

Friday visitors shouldn’t miss the great line up of trade exhibitors including traders showcasing agricultural machinery and equipment to charities and countryside organisations, land agents and clothing.

If cooking is your thing, be sure to visit the SWI and Farmhouse Kitchen marquees, where competition will be fierce to produce the best home- cooked produce from raspberry jam to the perfect scones on both days of the show.

If you are making a Saturday trip to the Perth Show, be sure to check out the cattle show, including the National Simmental Show in its landmark 10th year, and the biennial Highland Cattle Gathering which was first staged at the Black Isle in 2015.

Perth Show is celebrating a “cattle coup” by securing the second national event.

Don’t miss the livestock judging and pet shows, which are guaranteed to impress any animal lover.

Entry to the pet show is open on the day.

For family entertainment throughout the show, look no further than the family area which has something to keep everyone busy including bouncy castles, motorbikes and quads bikes, face painting, bungee bouncers and much more.

The whole family will also love the grand parade of champions and prizewinners and the vintage agricultural vehicles and machinery display which always draws a crowd as it parades around the main arena.

Proceedings will come to a close on Saturday when show-goers have the chance to dance the night away at the Ceilidh On The Inch, which begins at 9pm.
