Festival-goer’s drink-drive error
A music fan was left wishing he could turn back time after ruining his Rewind weekend with drink-driving shame.
Paul Muir was among the thousands who gathered at Scone Palace for the festival.
The 49-year-old enjoyed a few drinks while listening to artists such as Tony Hadley, Rick Astley and The Bluebells before camping overnight.
Unfortunately for Muir his weekend then took a wrong turn when he got behind the wheel the following day, still under the influence of alcohol.
He was stopped by police a short distance from the festival site, as he passed through Old Scone, and gave a positive roadside breath test.
It showed he was still twice the legal limit.
Muir, of Sandy Loan, admitted driving with excess alcohol (49 microgrammes) on July 24 last year. The legal limit is just 22 microgrammes.
Muir told the court it had been a genuine error and asked for a chance to engage with a drink-drive rehabilitation scheme.
“This was clearly a mistake,” said solicitor John McLaughlin.
“There was a misappreciation on the part of Mr Muir about how long alcohol would stay in his body.”
The agent said his client would retain his £30,000-peryear job despite a ban.
Sheriff William Wood told the accused he hoped he had learnt a lesson as he fined him £600 and disqualified him from the road for 12 months.
