Canmore AC angler lands Magnus Crowe honours

The Strathmore Angling Improvemen­t Associatio­n held its annual Magnus Crowe competitio­n at LINTRATHEN RESERVOIR.

The overall winner was Dave MackIntosh, of Canmore AC, with four fish for 7lbs 15ozs, with Les Shepherd, of Arbroath AC, second with four for 7lbs 11ozs.

RESCOBIE LOCH is still fishing well despite the mixed weather conditions.

The fish are to be found all over the loch with the middle of the main bay reported to be the hot spot for the last week.

Fish caught for July were 129 brown trout for 297lbs and 931 rainbow trout caught for 2030lbs.

Fish of the month winner for July was J Davies with his rainbow trout of 6lbs 4oz.

The RLDA held the second last fishing competitio­n recently and was won by Ian Buchan with four fish and four returned for 17lbs 3.5oz.

There has been only one club fishing this week and it was Blairgowri­e AA, who caught 20 fish for 55lbs 7oz.

There have been numerous anglers catching the four-fish limitm, including Jim Moncur four for 14 lbs 8 oz, Charlie Walls four for 13 lbs 8 oz, Brian Murchie four for 13 lbs, Harry Gauld four for 13 lbs, Dave Milne four for 12 lbs 8 oz, Eric Sellars four for 12 lbs and R McIntosh four for 11 lbs 12 oz.

CROMBIE the weather has again played its part in the fishing on MAC waters, with the cooler conditions resulting in less fly life hatching off and consequent­ly fewer fish showing on the surface.

However the fish are not too deep down and most anglers have been fishing floaters or midge tips, though some have resorted to fast glass to get their fish.

Notable catches include J Gibb on the North pond who kept five fish for 11lbs, R Malkowski and M Whyte on the North pond who kept eight for 16lbs, G Bell and D Brown on the Island pond who kept eight for 16lbs, N Anderson and A Phillip on the Island pond who kept four for 7lbs and returned a further 12 and S Low and S Marshall on the Island pond who kept eight for 14lbs 8oz. FRANDY FISHERY is reporting some excellent catches again this week.

Brian Hepburn & Alex Hamilton (Kelty) kept eight fish weighing 19lb, Robin Eadie and Ernie Baglow, Kinross, 10 weighing 21lb and released three and Billy Thomson and Derek Carson, Auchterard­er, kept eight weighing 18lb 4oz and released a further eight.

The best flies recently have included the bibio hopper, snatcher, mini muddlers, daddy longlegs, Kate McLaren, and sedgehogs.

At ORCHILL LOCH the fish have been taking dries, buzzers and a variety of lures.

The Happy Fishers AC enjoyed a good outing as they caught 11 for 31lbs, mostly on dries and the Bonnybridg­e AC took 23 fish for 59lbs 4oz. NEWTON FARM FISHERY. John Callison reports a steady week with customers this week at newton. Fish are very high in the surface taking nymphs and dries. Top rod was Craig Dickson. He fished Friday, Saturday and Tuesday and landed an incredible 70 fish.
