Dark Blues striker goes under knife

- NEIL ROBERTSON

Dundee striker Sofien Moussa is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.

The 29-year-old Tunisian was forced to come off after 51 minutes of the Premiership defeat at home to Ross County two Saturdays ago.

Moussa looked to be in considerable pain as he was helped from the pitch, although manager Neil McCann had hoped that the summer signing would recover in time to make the Betfred Cup derby against Dundee United last Wednesday.

Instead, he missed that game as well as Saturday’s defeat at Hamilton with surgery being required.

The operation is understood to have gone well but the club are unwilling to put a timescale on Moussa’s recovery.

He becomes the second Dundee player to go under the knife in the space of a week with Craig Wighton also needing operated on after suffering a cruciate injury.

There is, though, better news regarding Roarie Deacon, who picked up a knock against United and Randy Wolters who came off against Accies with a hamstring problem.

The former is making steady progress while the latter’s injury is not as bad as first feared.

The Dark Blues’ under-20 side host Alloa tonight in the first round of the Irn-Bru Cup at Dens Park.

Wasps manager Jim Goodwin is looking for his side to show consistency and a cutting edge.

Alloa have yet to pick up a win this season and lost 1-0 to East Fife in League One on Saturday but Goodwin said: “We are actually playing better than our results would suggest. We lost to Hibs in the Betfred Cup but played well and we were seconds away from defeating Raith Rovers.

“However, we know that we need to get a consistency level into our game.

“We are also not scoring enough goals and when that happens, confidence can be affected.

“We will look to play at as high a level as we can for 90 minutes at Dundee and look to be ruthless in front of goal.”
