‘Jamie has been different class’, says United boss
McKinnon admits he is keen that Robson in particular, who is still only 19, fully seizes the chance he has to go far in the game.
He said: “I think Paul has been outstanding and Jamie has been different class as well every time he has been called upon.
“Jamie is like Dundee’s Cammy Kerr – they both seem to have that bit of drive about them.
“They both have a chance to make really good careers in the game.
“I told Jamie I understand that Cammy is an incredibly-dedicated professional and he will get the best out of himself from the rest of his career.
“So Jamie has to do that as well and he seems to have taken the message on board.”
Meanwhile, McKinnon revealed that William Edjenguele and Scott McDonald are both injury doubts for tomorrow’s game against Brechin with McMullan still suspended following his red card against Queen of the South last weekend.
McKinnon said: “William has a niggle in his groin. Scott McDonald had a dead leg and has not trained this week so he is also 50-50 for the weekend.
“Paul is suspended but we have someone like Scotty (Fraser) to come straight in.
“Quinny (Paul Quinn) came in against Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night and I thought he cruised it. He hasn’t played any football for nearly three months but he will be a good addition for us.”
McKinnon was given his chance to manage in senior football by Brechin and he spent three happy years at the Glebe.
However, the Tannadice boss admitted there will be no room for sentiment against tomorrow’s opponents as United look to make it three wins out of three so far in the Championship.
McKinnon added: “They are the nicest people in the world to work for up there.
“I have a huge amount of time and respect for the Brechin board.
“I had a great time there with good people who only want what’s best for their club.
“They were fantastic to work for and I love that club but there will be no sentiment on Saturday.
“The game could be a massive banana skin for us.
“They will come in and set up 5-3-2, which is hard to break down.
“Up front, they have Andy Jackson who was supposedly outstanding against Livingston last week.
“They will be a threat and if we are not at our best, then they will make it really difficult for us.”
