Community cinema is revived

-

A community cinema group is making a comeback.

The Alyth Film Club, which organises local screenings of critically acclaimed and sometimes hard to find features, announced it was taking a break in March after dwindling audience numbers.

The team, made up of volunteers, organised an online survey to gauge public interest in the project.

Now, the club has announced its return, albeit in a slightly reduced fashion. Instead of monthly events, there will be two films shown over autumn and winter and two in spring.

A spokesman took to social media to announce the revival.

“The film club would like to thank all the people who filled out our survey,” he said. “We needed to know what people want from the club and how to take things forward.”

Most respondents said they didn’t like having a break in the middle of the film.

The club’s spokesman added: “The most common reasons for not coming to a film were because people didn’t like the film that was showing and because the seating was not that comfortable. The committee has tried to vary what we show and will continue to do this. We also welcome recommendations.”

Club bosses said it would look at ways to improve seating, although that could involve a major fundraising effort.

The club hopes to attract more volunteers in time for its next showing in October.
