CALEDONIAN MARTS

sold 401 store cattle and 31 breeding cattle.

Bullocks averaged 223p per kg, selling to 255p for Simmental crosses from Gilmour Farms and to £1,180 for Charolais crosses from Shortrigg, Slamannan.

Heifers averaged 210p, selling to 238p for Limousins from Lammerview and to £1,080 from the same farm.

Black and White bullocks averaged 156p, selling to 166p from Lochnaw Home Farm, Stranraer and to £740 (twice) from Knocknain and Powguild, Cardenden.

All classes of breeding cattle were in demand.

Shorthorn cows and calf £1,380 Ardgate.

Also forward were 2,800 store lambs and feeding sheep.

Top price of the day went to Tullochmho­r, Balquhidde­r, for a pair of TexelX lambs at £85.

Overall sale average £58.22 (-33p on the week).

Texel lambs averaged £60.03 (+£3.10).

Cheviot lambs averaged £60.52 (n/c).

Suffolk lambs averaged £58.01 (-£5.13).

Beltex lambs averaged £64.41 (+3.41).

Mule lambs averaged £53.52 (-£3.18).

Overall sale average (1,533) averaged 174.85p per kg.

Top price of the day went to the Moor for a 47kg BeltexX Texel at £105, which also topped the sale at 223p.

Leading prices were: Beltex £103, £101, £100 Doune Farms; Texel £100 Beannie; BeltexX £98 Easter Ochtermuth­ill.

Also forward were 815 cast ewes, tups and wedders.

Heavy ewes (347) averaged £66.69 (-£7.19 on the week), selling to £105 for a Texel from Ballinloan, Dunkeld.

Export ewes (436) averaged £38.49 (+£6.62 on the week).
