Parents urged to have their say
Parents have been urged by an MP to speak up with their worries and get involved in any decisions about their local schools.
Pete Wishart attended the first of a series of consultations – at St Ninian’s Primary in Perth – which are debating the future of 10 under-capacity primaries.
Mr Wishart has urged parents to speak up and have their say.
He said: “Many parents will be justifiably concerned that their schools have appeared on a list where all options are to be considered, including the closure of the school itself.
“Parents from Abernyte to North Muirton should be concerned about the future of their schools and they must get involved in the debate about their future. The council has claimed a tranche of schools have issues with capacity or ageing buildings but they must also take into account the quality of education they provide and the value these school give to their community.
“Schools on the list such as St Ninian’s in Dunkeld Road also provide an indispensable service fostering a unique close relationship to the episcopal cathedral.”
At present, the review is looking at the future of Abernyte, Balhousie, Blairingone, Braco and Greenloaning, Forteviot, Logiealmond, Methven, North Muirton and St Ninian’s.
The council has stressed no decisions have been made.
