Rescobie Loch enjoys late season surge

With the end of the fishing season fast approachin­g,

RESCOBIE LOCH is now down to the single session for boat anglers from 9am until an hour after sunset.

Fishing is still excellent with the last week being better than the previous one and with more fish being caught and more anglers taking the basket limit.

The first leg of the annual RLDA v Raemoir competitio­n was held on Saturday with the holders, RLDA, winning the day by 10lb. There were 28 fish caught and 29 returned.

August fish of the month leader is A Woodrow with a rainbow trout of 7lb 4oz.

Clubs fishing recently include: Leslie and Glenrothes, 24 rainbows for 84lb 5oz and three browns for 6lb; Monifieth AC, 19 fish, 45lb; Pitlochry AC, seven for 19lb 5oz.

Anglers catching the fourfish limit: Alan Wood, with two browns for 9lb 4oz and two rainbows for 5lb; G Burnett, 14lb; B Murchie, 13lb; Mr Middleton, 12lb; Mr Whyte, 11lb 8oz; Alex Brewster, 11lb and Bob Buick, 11lb.

A variety of flies, and lines, took fish at MONIKIE and

CROMBIE this week including the diawl bach, boobies, hot head damsel and tequila fab.

Most fish were taken on either a midge tip or intermedia­te line.

The evening sessions have now finished for the season.

Club catches included: Ferry Fly Dressers, six boats on the Island Pond, keeping 17 fish for 29lb 7oz; Dundee Eastend, five boats on the Island, kept six for 10lb 15oz.

Notable catches included: A Murray and P Walls on the Island Pond, three for 5lb 14oz, five returned; R McDonald and J Stewart on the North Pond, six for 12lb 8oz; R Malkowski and D Morrison on the North, eight for 15lb; D Dutch and A Middleton on the North, eight for 17lb 3oz. GLENSHERRU­P FISHERY reported good fishing last week with mostly top of the water tactics and/or midge tip lines.

Fish were caught all over the loch with 63 rods catching 241 trout at an average of 2lb 9oz.

FRANDY FISHERY had some great catches. Norman Thomson and Ian Baikie (Tillicoult­ry) kept 10 weighing 24lb; Peter King and Mick Williams (Aberfoyle), 10, 24lb and released a further 10; Bill Ramage (Alva), four for 9lb 8oz, released 12; Billy Thomson and Derek Carson (Auchterard­er), eight for 10lb 4oz; Bob and Andrew Oliver (Doune), seven, 14lb 4oz; Gordon Price and Roy Scott (Kilmacolm), six for 14lb; Michael Rae (Alva), five for 11lb 4oz; Ian MacEchern and Jim McIntosh (Fort William), six fish weighing 14lb; Wullie Johnson (Bannockbur­n), two for 5lb 12oz and released two; Ross MacKinnon and Tom Irvine (Strathaven), five for 11lb 8oz; Robin Eadie and Ernie Baglow (Kinross), eight for 17lb, released three; Jim Baxter (Crossgates) caught and released 12; Ian McLaren and John Rae (Grangemout­h), 10 for 24lb and released three.

On the club front: SPRA West took 74 fish weighing 159lb 9oz and released 11; Scottish Deaf FFC, 11 for 25lb 11oz; Pencaitlan­d kept 21 fish for 46lb; Catch 22, 11 fish, 25lb 4oz; Tillicoult­ry, eight, 20lb 4oz; Stanley AC, 27 fish, 56lb 2oz and released nine.

The top flies last week included the bibio hopper, Kate McLaren, sedge muddler, daddy longlegs, sedgehog and the sedge muddler, while the best fishing areas were the Dogleg, North Shore and the Dam Wall.
