SPEAKERS CLUB The new season of Perth Speakers Club starts next Thursday, at 7.30pm, in the Salutation Hotel.

President Jim Reid issued an open invitation to all interested men and women of all ages to attend, and welcomes those wanting to build confidence in speaking at social and business occasions. FLOWERS STOLEN Members of the Blooming Guildtown Group have been upset by the theft of flowers from wooden boxes in the village.

Thankfully the flowers weren’t taken until after the judging of the It’s Your Neighbourh­ood competitio­n. DEATH CAFE An opportunit­y to discuss one of the last taboos is being offered in Perth.

A “death café” will be held in the Queen’s Hotel on Friday September 29, from 10am to noon. “At a death cafe, people, usually strangers, gather to drink tea, eat cake and discuss death,” said organisers.

“It’s not all gloomy, there is laughter and practical points are made like writing a will.” PLUM MARKET Newburgh’s plum markets continue on Saturday, from 9.30am to noon, on High Street. MONDAY CLUB Dunbarney Monday Club will start its new season on Monday, at 2pm, in Dunbarney Church Hall, Manse Road, Bridge of Earn.

Entertainm­ent will be provided by Perth Film Club who will show a variety of short films which will include some scenic tours and comedies made in conjunctio­n with local drama clubs.

New members welcome, the club meets on the first and third Mondays of each month. OPERATIC GROUP Perth City Operatic Group is presenting the Gilbert and Sullivan classic the Pirates of Penzance at the North Inch Community Campus, from September 5 to 9.
