A motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a minibus on a quiet road outside Dundee on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on the A923 Dundee to Coupar Angus Road at the turn-off to Fowlis around 12.20pm.

The Scottish Ambulance Service’s trauma team was dispatched to the scene but the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is the second death on the notorious stretch of road in little more than a month.

Billy Haggart, 18, from Coupar Angus died after the car he was travelling in careered off the road at Tullybaccart, just a short distance from yesterday’s incident, in the early hours of July 22.

The four other people in the car suffered serious injuries.

Police closed the A923 from Muirhead to Piperdam, more than two miles of road, following the collision yesterday afternoon.

One witness said: “It looks very serious. The police appear to be treating it as a fatal accident.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division said: “Police Scotland can confirm that than a man has died following a road traffic collision on the A923 Coupar Angus Road this afternoon.

“Emergency services were called to the area at about 12.30pm following reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a van.

“The motorcyclist sadly died at the scene. “Next of kin have been informed. “Anyone who witnessed the collision take place should get in touch with Police Scotland Tayside Division on 101 or speak to any police officer.”

The road was closed for more than five hours as investigations into the collision were carried out.

The area’s school bus services were affected.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesmansaid :“We received a call at 12.22 pm to attend a road traffic collision on the A923 in Angus. We dispatched two ambulances and the trauma team to the scene.”

Following Billy Haggart’s death in July, Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said councils need to be “proactive” to reduce the number of accidents on the road.

He suggested that Perth and Kinross Council should install “accident blackspot” signs on the road.
