Jurors did not believe stories about a vendetta

A serial domestic abuser who terrorised three former partners over a period of almost 13 years could be facing jail.

Jamie Doak physically attacked the women time and again while involved in relationships that left them physically and mentally scarred.

He had refused to accept his guilt and denied a string of charges, dismissing his victims’ recollections of his violent outbursts as “nonsense”.

After hearing days of evidence, a jury found him guilty of four charges of assaulting and injuring Julie Mailer, Joanna Perrett and Joanna Chac.

Doak, of Ruthven Street in Auchterarder, claimed the three women had banded together as part of a “vendetta against him” and also attacked his own home town.

The 41-year-old said it had a “smallminded, two-faced, small-town mentality” as he portrayed himself as the victim of a smear campaign.

Jurors were not convinced by his attempts to undermine the women’s characters.

Doak was found guilty of assaulting Julie Mailer between June 2001 and August 2005 to her injury, on one occasion pushing her head against a car window and throwing a television at her on another.

He was also convicted of two charges of assaulting Joanna Perrett between October 2006 and January 2008 to her injury and severe injury.

Doak threw her the ground during one attack in January 2008.

Finally, he was found guilty of attacking Joanna Chac to her injury between September 2008 and May 2014.

The assaults on Ms Chac included striking her with household items and seizing her by the neck and pushing her against a wall so only her toes remained on the ground and her breathing was restricted.

The incidents took place at addresses across Perth and Kinross.

Additional charges alleging that he abducted both Ms Chac and Ms Perrett were dropped earlier in the trial.

Sentence has been deferred until October 11 when Doak will return to Perth Sheriff Court.
