Farm security warning after distinctive tractor stolen
A fresh security alert has been issued to farmers and people living in rural areas after a tractor was taken in the latest incident.
The overnight raid took place this week on a farm between Kinross and Kelty, from where a distinctive Massey Ferguson model 5460 tractor was taken.
The bright red tractor bore the registration SP05 BPF when it was stolen from the property at Blairadam.
A loader was also taken by the thieves, who targeted the farm between 8pm on Tuesday and 9am yesterday.
Police Scotland has made an appeal for witnesses.
A spokesman said: “This is quite an unusual item to be taken from a farm.
“While it is common to see tractors like this on rural roads in the area, it is quite a distinctive machine.”
In recent months, farmers across the region have been urged to beef up security amid concerns many need to do more to protect their properties.
Organised gangs have made off with many thousands of pounds-worth of machinery, metalwork and livestock.
The rural nature of many of the locations targeted makes it difficult to detect those responsible.
Farmers are now being urged to secure their property and ensure their farms are not easy pickings.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
