Crash misery for motorists

-

There was misery for motorists travelling through Perthshire as accidents caused significant delays on main routes.

The M90 was the first to be hit by congestion after two vehicles were involved in a rearend shunt on the northbound carriageway, some two miles south of Bridge of Earn.

The crash, which took place shortly before 10.30am yesterday, left the two drivers “shaken” but otherwise unhurt.

Though the accident itself was relatively minor it caused a temporary spell of what Police Scotland called “traffic chaos” on the road.

Significant queues built up as emergency services arrived and the two vehicles were moved from the carriageway.

It was some time before traffic could disperse and the road returned to normal.

A second incident then saw traffic on the A9 south of Perth held up for around two hours following a collision between a car and a lorry.

That accident blocked part of the road, near to the Aberuthven junction, at around 11.10am, causing lengthy delays for northbound traffic.

Emergency services again attended but all involved escaped significant injury.

Traffic was able to pass with caution.

The accident was cleared and the road fully reopened by around 1.30pm.

Motorists endured tricky driving conditions throughout much of the day as roads were affected by steady rainfall.
