Thieves steal four-figure sum after targeting parking meters

-

Police are appealing for information after a gang of thieves targeted five parking meters in Perthshire, stealing money from them.

The incidents, in which the criminals escaped with a fourfigure sum, took place between August 28 and September 4 at the Rie-achan, Ferry Road and Atholl Road car parks in Pitlochry and the Tay Terrace and Atholl Street car parks in Dunkeld.

A police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for information regarding these thefts and would also like motorists to consider if their dashcams have captured any footage that may assist.”

It is understood the thieves came from outside the area.

Elsewhere, two men stole Euros from Atholl Stores in Blair Atholl around 12.20pm on September 1.

The men entered the store in the pretence of exchanging sterling notes for euros.

However, they distracted the cashier before deciding not to change the currency.

After they left the shop the cashier discovered they had stolen some of the euros.

Meanwhile, overnight on August 29-30, an attempt was made to break into the Pavilion on Newhouse Road, Perth and a garage at the rear of a house in Newhouse Road was broken into.

On the same night, two sheds were broken into at properties in Errochty Grove, Perth.

Officers are also looking to trace thieves who broke into Mobile Solutions, High Street, Perth and stole items at 11.30pm on August 29.
