Lochee United respond to keep up pressure on leading clubs

Although Lochee United went behind, they eased their way to a 3-1 victory at home to Dundonald Bluebell to keep on the shirt tails of the top three.

Colin Wilson fired the Fifers into an early lead but George Shields’ side quickly replied with a Bryan Deasley double, the first coming from a penalty kick.

Connor Birse added the third on the stroke of half-time.

Carnoustie extended their unbeaten run to six games, but it was a close call as they had to come from two down with 10 men to salvage a point and deny Kennoway Star Hearts their first topflight win.

Matty Gay gave Hearts the lead after seven minutes and the Gowfers then had defender Adam Harwood sent off on 39 minutes. Nathan Doig doubled the hosts’ advantage with a header just before the break.

Derek Paterson pulled one back three minutes after the restart, but, 10 minutes later, Gay restored Kennoway’s two-goal advantage.

However, in a fighting finish by the Gowfers, Paterson’s second goal and a Steven Cook counter in the final 15 minutes salvaged a point.

There was more woe for Broughty as they slipped to a home defeat at Camelon’s hands.

Their failure to take several clear-cut first half chances that could have sunk the Mariners cost them dearly.

That came after the Fed got off to the perfect start with a Garry Kenneth goal after only five minutes.

On 24 minutes, Kane equalised and as the visitors pressed, Ryan Lockie got the winner with 30 minutes left.

A Lewis Mackie goal for Jeanfield Swifts after 25 minutes decided a very evenly-contested encounter at Forfar West End.

It was a hard-fought and timely victory for Swifts and one on which they will hope to build, but it consigned West End to a fourth home defeat and left them propping up the table.

Hill of Beath went down 3-1 at Broxburn with the home side’s goals coming from Darren Gribben, Gordon Donaldson and Alexander Miller.

Even when Haws sub Lewis Elder got one back to make it 2-1, the Lothian side always looked as though they would run out winners.
