Finlayson parts company with Kirrie Thistle

-

Kirrie Thistle are looking for a new manger after Jim Finlayson confirmed he had resigned following their 3-1 defeat at Tranent.

He said: “I feel that I have taken the club as far as I can.

“It is a great club and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would like to thank the committee for being fully supportive.

“I’d like to wish the club all the best in the future and think that whoever takes over has a good squad with which to work.”

Though disappointed at going out on a losing note, he had nothing but praise for the performance.

“We had a depleted squad, but the boys worked their socks off and deserved something from the game.”

Having gone two down when under the cosh in the early stages, an Alan Cruickshank goal put them back in the game and had he not missed a penalty midway through the second half, the outcome might have been different.

Instead Kirrie got caught on the break and lost a third as they chased an equaliser.

St Andrews United halted leaders Fauldhouse’s unblemished record after the sides shared six goals at Barnetts Park.

But given they went in 3-1 up at the break, Saints boss Craig Morrison felt it was more like a defeat because he reckoned they were the better team.

After Fauldhouse had taken the lead, goals from Scott Orrock, Derek Wallace and Liam McDaid put Saints in the driving seat, only for the visitors to salvage a draw with two second half goals.

Defeat from the jaws of victory was the Tayport story in the visit to Blackburn United.

Ahead after Dale Reid touched home from close range midway through the first half, Port contrived to toss away all three points by conceding twice in the last three minutes.

Andy McQuillan turned in the leveller and Brian Ross nicked a 90th minute winner.

There was also disappointment for Glenrothes, who lost 4-2 at home to Bathgate Thistle.

Conor Shiavone gave the Glens an early lead and they looked comfortable, but an injury meant they had to reshuffle the pack and they conceded within a couple of minutes.

All square at the break, they went behind but Lee Celentano converted a penalty to equalise, only for the visitors to score two late goals.

Downfield played better than their 3-0 defeat at Haddington suggests.

They fell behind to a Bob Berry strike two minutes before the break and the game was always in the balance until Andy Jones hit a quick-fire double in the 78th and 80th minutes.

Musselburgh maintained their unbeaten record but had to work hard to overcome visitors Thornton Hibs.

A Jed Davie goal just before the break was all that separated the sides.
