R&A AUTUMN MEETING

-

Persistent rainfall, overcast skies and cool temperatures were the ingredients for the weather as the second week of the R&A Autumn Meeting continued yesterday. Australian Gerald Rawson won his Round 3 Jubilee Vase match yesterday morning, beating Canadian Craig Thomas 4 and 3. On Tuesday, in his match against local Robert Tullis, Rawson’s ball was plucked from Granny Clark’s Wynd at the start of the match by a gull, who tossed it around before then flying off with it towards the beach. Rawson went on to win 5 and 4. Yesterday afternoon Rawson lost on the 18th green to American Rich McDonald – with no interference from the gulls. Through to Round 4 of the competition is club committee member David Christie, who won a tight match in the morning against David Stirling by 1 hole, and in the afternoon eased through by beating Brad Krey 6 and 4. The Royal Calcutta Millennium Plate continued at Kingsbarns yesterday. Successful in the continuing Round 1 matches was past captain Pierre Bechmann, who beat Angus GP Dr Graeme Sutherland 4 and 3. Fellow past captain Sandy Dawson lost to Charles Anderson, a past president of Atlanta Athletic Club, 2 and 1.
