An Angus man has made an appearance on one of the UK’s most popular quiz shows.

Carnoustie resident George McAinsh appeared on The Chase last night, where he reached the final and competed for £12,000.

An Alzheimer Scotland volunteer and local fundraiser, he is a well known face throughout the town, often seen on his bike.

Supportive messages were appearing for him across social media.

Community activities organiser at Alzheimer Scotland Angus, Christine Beaton, offered up her encouragement to George on Facebook, posting that the organisation was “rooting” for him.

Mr McAinsh reached the final and was competing alongside two others for £12,000. However, the team was beaten by “the chaser” in the last round.

The ITV game show is hosted by actor Bradley Walsh, well known for his role in Coronation Street.

Contestants go head-to-head against professional chasers Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan.

With five million viewers, it is one of the most popular shows on ITV.

Contestants amass as much money as possible – which is then added to a prize fund if they survive an individual “chase”.

Those who survive these bouts against the chasers play with other contestants as a team for an equal share of the prize fund.
