Council tenants move into new £1 million homes development
Tenants have begun moving into a new £1 million council house development on Perth’s Glenearn Road.
The modern one and two-bedroom flats welcomed their first occupants this week as Perth and Kinross Council’s affordable house building programme continues.
More than 500 new homes – 200 of them council properties – have been delivered by the local authority and its housing association partners since 2012.
They have been built in Methven, Scone, Alyth, Inchture, Blairgowrie, Auchterarder, Balbeggie, Rattray and at many sites in Perth.
New developments at Scone and Stanley are under way and further new-builds are said to be “in the pipeline”.
To mark Scottish Housing Day, the council’s housing and communities convener, councillor Peter Barrett, visited the Glenearn Road development to speak to tenants.
He said: “These properties will transform the lives of the new residents and enhance the surrounding neighbourhood.
“The flats are built to the highest standard. All windows and doors are triple glazed and they are insulated well to keep tenants warm and reduce heating bills.
“Building more affordable housing will be a priority for me. “Previously the land housed four bungalows which had to be demolished, so we have increased the amount of accommodation on the site.”
Resident Erin Garry, 22, said: “This is my first flat and I’m really happy with it.”
