The father of missing teenager Libbi Toledo posted a heartbreaking quote on Facebook hours after a body was found in Fife.

As friends waited anxiously for news of the 17-year-old, Joe Toledo shared a quote from American novelist F Scott Fitzgerald.

It read: “The loneliest moment in someone’s life is when they are watching their whole world fall apart, and all they can do is stare blankly.”

Mr Toledo, who lives in the US, also shared an emotional song about a father watching over his sleeping child and wishing he could keep them safe.

His family have said they are clinging to hope that the body found at a Kirkcaldy industrial estate on Thursday was not that of missing Libbi.

Police have yet to publicly identify the female, whose body was discovered just 10 minutes before the teenager’s frantic mother Judi was due to address a press conference.

The event was immediately cancelled and a cordon thrown up around parts of Smeaton Industrial Estate, close to where Libbi was last seen on Monday September 11.

Officers were seen searching a disused scrapyard on the corner of Denburn Road and Smeaton Road.

Libbi, who had mental health problems, ADHD and autism, stayed at an assisted living facility in Kirkcaldy but had latterly been spending three days a week with her mother in Brechin.

She spent the days before her disappearance in the Angus town with family before taking a train back to Kirkcaldy on Sunday September 10.

She was last seen on Veronica Crescent at 1pm the following day and was reported missing at 1.45am on the Tuesday when she failed to return to her accommodation.

Described as vulnerable and high risk, concern had been mounting for her well-being and appeals for her whereabouts were shared more than 7,000 times on Facebook.

Police confirmed the discovery of a body on Thursday night. They said the cause of death was unexplained pending further inquiries.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
