Top 10 places for Courier Country universities
St Andrews named Scotland’s number one institution
Three of Courier Country’s universities have been listed among the top 10 in Scotland, with St Andrews University ranked number one.
Dundee University came in at third place in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, followed by Abertay University in 10th place.
In the UK overall, St Andrews is in third place, Dundee in 23rd – an improvement from last year when it was in 28th – while Abertay’s ranking fell from 85th to 98th.
St Andrews principal professor Sally Mapstone said: “To be ranked top in this country and third in the UK again completes a very successful year for this university. St Andrews is currently the leading university in the UK for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2017, and secured a Gold Award, the highest possible, in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), a new assessment of the quality of teaching and the undergraduate experience at universities across the UK.”
Dundee University was ranked similarly highly for both student experience and teaching excellence.
Earlier this year it was acknowledged as one of the world’s top 200 universities and also received a Gold Award in the Teaching Excellence Framework.
Professor Sir Pete Downes, principal and vice-chancellor of Dundee University, said: “I am delighted that we have not only once again improved our ranking among the top universities in the UK but that we are in the UK’s top 10 for graduate prospects, showing that we are equipping our students with the attributes to make an impact in the workplace and the wider society.”
A spokesman for Abertay University added: “As a university we work hard to ensure our students receive great teaching, enjoy a good student experience and have access to a high quality learning environment.”
