A record would be nice but Raith front man just wants to keep run going

Lewis Vaughan admits he would be delighted if he could make his own piece of Raith Rovers history – however, he insists he would gladly put personal glory to one side as long as his team keep winning.

The 21-year-old striker is the talk of Scottish football after netting in 11 consecutive matches for the Kirkcaldy outfit.

Vaughan is just two games away from equalling Rovers’ all-time record of scoring in 13 matches in a row, set by Joe Cowan in the 1931-32 season.

Raith’s next three games are against Airdrie at home and then Albion Rovers on league business before an Irn-Bru Cup tie with St Mirren.

However, Vaughan admits that all he is concentrating on is helping Barry Smith’s table-toppers pick up another three points against the Diamonds.

He said: “When I am playing, I am not thinking about records, to be honest.

“I just want to score every game. If it means I beat the record, then so be it.

“I am just concentrating on each game as it comes.

“I have two to equal it and three to beat it. The game to do that would be away at St Mirren.

“I have been thinking about it and if it happens, brilliant but the most important thing is the team wins on Saturday – that’s the main thing.”

Vaughan may be on fire at the moment but the same could be said about his team in general with Raith scoring five goals without reply last week against Queen’s Park to extend their run of victories in all competitions to a magnificent seven.

Vaughan said: “We have started the league campaign really well with one draw and five wins so long may it continue.

“It was another good victory last Saturday against Queen’s Park at Hampden.

“It might not have been our best performance but we still got the win.”

Raith have been hit with two major injury blows in recent weeks to defenders Kyle Benedictus and Kevin McHattie.

However, Vaughan insists the tight squad have simply pulled even closer together in adversity.

He added: “We have had a couple of injuries recently so the lads are digging in helping each other out.

“We have a small squad as we are in League 1 and we cannot have the same amount of players as we had in the Championship.

“It is all about having quality over quantity and I think the manager has done that.

“Raith Rovers is far too big a club to be in League 1. We have to go straight back up.

“The way we have started, hopefully we can do that.”
