Petrie is certain team will make amends
Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is looking for his players to bounce back strongly after a disappointing defeat and “substandard” performance at home last week to league leaders Stirling Albion.
The Gable Endies could have gone top themselves if they had beaten Dave Mackay’s Binos, but instead they suffered a 3-1 loss.
It brought to an end an eight-game unbeaten run, and Petrie is now determined there will be a big response when his side travel to face Elgin this afternoon.
The manager said: “We were very disappointed with last week’s result.
“We had put together a good run, so the last thing we wanted was for it to end at home.
“However, we can have no complaints as Stirling fully deserved their win.
“It was a sub-standard performance from the boys but we will dust ourselves off and go again.
“We have had a good week training in preparation for what will be a really tough game up in Elgin. Jim Weir always has his sides well organised, and they still have some super players.
“It is never an easy venue to go to, and they will still be hurting after surrendering a two-goal lead at Berwick last week to lose 3-2.
“But I am looking for a reaction from my players after the Stirling game and I am sure they will produce one,” he added.
Montrose will be boosted at Borough Briggs by the return of midfielder Terry Masson, who has been out injured since July.
Petrie added: “We will have Terry Masson back, which is a big bonus for us.
“He has been an important player for Montrose over the years and it is a boost to have him in the squad once again.
“We now only have Michael Bolochoweckyj and Danny Cavanagh injured, while we have loaned Gary Fraser out to Arbroath in a bid to get him some game time.”
