Drivers face parking charges as pool to shut for £150k revamp
New flume features and sauna cabin will be among improvements
Perth Leisure Pool is to undergo a £150,000 refurbishment that will see users have to start paying to park there.
The building will close its doors to the public for a week, from October 30-November 5, for the works, which will see new flume features, a swipe entry system, sauna cabin replacement and a cafe makeover.
There will also be pool surround resurfacing, repairs to the children’s area flooring and pool plant repair and refurbishment.
A spokeswoman for Live Active Leisure (LAL) said the revamp of the building will also include self-service cashless kiosks and improved parking access, with the introduction of parking charges.
LAL announced in August it was to start charging drivers for use of the leisure pool car park, claiming users were “frustrated” by city centre motorists leaving their cars there for free.
Drivers will be charged 20p for two hours, after a free initial 15-minute spell, rising to £10 for up to 12 hours.

The improvements to the flumes will include speed timers and a light and sound system.
The LAL spokeswoman said: “As with any ageing building, Perth Leisure Pool requires ongoing maintenance works in order to provide a continued safe and reliable operation and to ensure the venue remains attractive to customers.
“These works include such essential items as pool surround resurfacing, Monkey Jungle repairs and maintenance to the changing cubicles and lockers.
“The whole of Perth Leisure Pool will close from October 30 to November 5 inclusive, which enables the various and complex works to be undertaken over a short and focused period.”
She added: “Whilst carrying out the essential maintenance work, the opportunity will be taken to carry out enhancements to the flumes and the upgrading of facility lighting in areas as the reception area.
“The introduction of new kiosks and entry arrangements will enhance the customer experience and bring a new and attractive focus to the venue.”
The pool is scheduled to reopen at 6.30am on November 6.
Leisure pool members can use pools at Kinross, Blairgowrie or Crieff during the closure. Alternatives for gym users include Live Active Rodney or North Inch Campus in Perth.
